Breast implants increase the incidence of an otherwise rare form of cancer called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. The cancer is related to bacterial contamination of the implants which are difficult to keep sterile because of their textured nature.
The cancer rate may be as high as 1 in 1000 implants.
As of July 2017 there have been 359 cases reported in the USA with 9 deaths.
